Pantone’s color of the year – Greenery – inspired us in more ways than one! We especially loved mixing the color green with a bold and retro print for our new Avocado Piazza… and those Swaying Palms, we can’t get enough! Greenery is still trending into fall and winter so keep an eye for darker tones and prints.
The color Grey has been the new neutral over the past year and will be trending forward for some time. We see inspiration with this color across the board in fashion, home décor & design, and weddings. It serves as a base with pops of color or as a classic palette of grey & white. You’ll also see deep cranberry red and vibrant grenadine tones this season, RED is making a comeback! It has been a hot wedding palette mixed with greys & silvers to greens & golds. You will see rich reds & golds trending into the holiday season and 2018.
When prospecting the new trends we take into consideration the designs seen on the runway of New York Fashion Week, the color reports from Pantone, and the publications of many other sources. Combining textile, color, fashion, home decor and event trends is a challenge that we love to take on!
One of the big trends we have seen is Machina…stemming from last year’s Met Gala. Fashions on the red carpet were inspired by technology so fabrics include mechanical structures, metallic coatings, 3-D printing and updated geometric shapes. This translates into a contemporary, urban-hip theme. For 2018, this theme will be a little less mechanical looking by incorporating some organic elements, like feather trims, corded appliques, and embroidered organza.
The Victorian Garden trend is also evolving with romantic palettes in brushstroke, floral and whimsical designs. Tassels, ruffles, textured Jacquards, Shantung fabrics and 20’s inspired feathers, lace and velvets create these feminine palettes. For 2018, this theme will move to a romantic feminine Renaissance theme playing off of last year’s Burning Man theme “DaVinci’s Workshop”! We will see 3-D florals, tapestry motifs, beadwork, velvets, furs, metallic foil coatings and lace trims. Colors will be faded pastels with pops of gilded gold.
Fashion & textiles are seeing a throwback to Pucci-inspired designs, Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress prints, Studio 54 disco fashions and wallpaper motifs. Metallic coatings, eclectic mid-tones & brightened pastels are brought together to create super fun color palettes. For 2018, we will see a move into the late 70’s/early 80’s where these same deco geometrics and wallpaper florals will be seen in more sorbet pastel tones. Shiny, metallic coated materials, in materials like sequins & lame will also still be trending in bright colors like turquoise, lipstick, fuchsia & Kelly green. (think of Alexis from the show Dynasty!)
